M/V Austin Tobin

On October 10th, 2001, I captained the M/V Austin Tobin from Sitka, Alaska to Cowichan Bay, Victoria, British Columbia. We arrived in Nanaimo on October 13th, where we worked on the vessel for the next several days before we loaded the vessel onto a freighter in Cow Bay on October 20th. We flew back to Sitka the next day. The freighter took the Tobin down through the Panama Canal and unloaded her in Port Everglades, Florida on November 12th, 2001. I flew from Sitka on November 10th in order to be in Port Everglades when the vessel arrived. I then captained the Tobin up the eastern seaboard to New York City where we arrived on November 21st, just in time for Thanksgiving. I had the opportunity to visit the wreckage at the World Trade Center location a little over two months after 9/11. I delivered the M/V Da Verazono 5 months before 9/11, and delivered the Tobin 2 months after 9/11.
I flew out of New York on November 24th. In all, I made 9 trips from Sitka to Weehawken, New Jersey, just across the Hudson River from 38th street on Manhattan Island.

This is an interesting photo in that the World Trade Center Towers are not in the background.
